CCC.

About the human on the other end of the leash.

“Yes, do as you would be done by—and not to the dark man and the white woman alone, but to the sorrel horse and the gray squirrel as well; not to creatures of your own anatomy only, but to all creatures.”

— Moore, J. Howard (1906). The Universal Kinship. Chicago: Charles H. Kerr & Co.

My name is Monika,

and I’m the owner, main caretaker, groomer, baker, chauffeur and everything else in between.

  • CCC isn't just a hobby-

It’s my full time job and career of choice. My life has been, and will continue to be committed towards forming bonds with as many animals as this life affords me to.
Brick by brick, and paw by paw, I hope to one day expand this venture of mine into a facility that will inevitably supplement my main goal in life- an all-inclusive animal sanctuary.

  • 31 years of never ending love.

There have been 24 animals to claim permanent vacancy in my home throughout my lifetime. Each one shaping their own place in my heart.
Of the 24, I currently share my life with four dogs, two cats, a mini Vietnamese pot bellied pig, a Sulcata tortoise, and two massive goldfish.

  • There isn't much free time when devoted to animal welfare.

However, it does come around every once in a while. When it does, you might catch me simply enjoying the stillness of life, gallivanting in a natural body of water, hiking through Pisgah National Park, practicing non-animal focused photography, crafting + refurbishing furniture, and/or caring for my vast collection of indoor and outdoor plants.

  • Rescue is Love.

I’m a major animal rescue advocate, and never hesitate to get on my soap box about the matter. I’m the girl pulling over to help at the sight of any stray or animal in distress. It’s honestly the way my entire four-legged brigade was formed. While the no vacancy light currently shines in my window, my work in rescue will continue for as long as I live.

The Journey.

My academic career was spent focused on journalism, poetry, architecture + interior design, although my personal life has revolved around animal welfare since childhood.
From growing up on a sanctuary for retired racehorses, to rescuing + rehabbing just about any critter you can imagine, attending every horse camp I could find as a kid, studying zoology and animal behavior from the moment I could read, volunteering at local shelters, maintaining farms, working in dog kennels, a quick bout with studying to be a veterinary technician, to providing respite for a menagerie of different geriatric animals over the years- you could say I have a natural magnetism towards animals, and I wouldn't have it any other way.
